For over 75 years, SSB has been built on trust, respect, and inclusion. We inspire meaningful relationships that set us apart in how we work with our customers, how we serve our teammates, and how we give back to our communities. We never stop learning and always strive to live up to our highest potential.

Stephen Goldman
Principal
Having spent over 36 years in the construction industry, Stephen is the grandson of SSB founder Homer Goldman and continues to work in every aspect of the business. As a young man growing up in Salinas around the construction business, he understood the importance of developing long-term relationships with clients. It’s one of the things that make his job rewarding. Because of his long history in construction, he has learned the importance of focusing on the needs of the client and utilizing the trends of the industry. Stephen is a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute.
Stephen is also very active in the local community, sitting on the boards of the Natividad Medical Foundation, Hartnell College Foundation, and the Andrew and Phyllis D’Arrigo Charitable Foundation. He is also a regular volunteer feeding the homeless at Al & Friends in Monterey. His desire to help people who need and want assistance is closely aligned with SSB’s values.
Stephen is also passionate about visiting developing nations, practicing and teaching yoga, climbing mountains, and jumping out of perfectly good airplanes.

Alicia Byers
Controller
Alicia has over 20 years of experience in finance, office, and HR management. Raised on the Central Coast in Atascadero, Alicia also served 4 years in the US Army. After her military service, she lived and worked on the east coast for 15 years before moving back to the Central Coast. Her experience working in finance for a local agricultural company prepared her well for her position at SSB, where she is controller, HR manager, and safety coordinator. She quickly became an integral and well-respected member of the team. Alicia particularly enjoys the family atmosphere at SSB.
Alicia loves the outdoors. She enjoys camping, hiking, 4-wheeling, kayaking, gardening, and playing golf.

Johnny Martin
General Superintendent
Johnny was raised in the Salinas Valley and was inspired by his older brother and brother-in-law to enter the construction industry. Two weeks after graduating from high school, he joined an apprentice program, then became a Foreman after only three years and eventually earned the position of General Superintendent. Since joining SSB, Johnny has been instrumental in expanding our Roof Coating and Painting services. He enjoys the diversity and freedom that comes with his position and is well-equipped to deal with any construction issues as they may arise.
Johnny is a diehard fan of local sports teams including the Giants, 49ers, Sharks and Warriors. He enjoys spending time with his wife and two kids, and his family has also hosted several foreign exchange students. His son is currently working as a winemaker in Australia, and his daughter is a recruiter in Sacramento.

Sara Manzo
Project Coordinator / Office Administrator
Sara is a lifelong Salinas Valley resident, having been born and raised in Chualar. She graduated from Cal Poly in 2017 with a degree in Business Entrepreneurship. She now works at SSB as a project coordinator and office administrator. She appreciates the rewarding, caring, and positive culture at SSB.
Sara is known around the office as a lover of all animals. In addition to the strays she has fostered, taken care of, and nursed back to health (before finding loving homes for them!), she also volunteers at local animal shelters in her free time.

Matt Humphreys
Project Manager / Estimator
Matt holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Sonoma State College. His path to a career in construction began when he started working as an apprentice carpenter, eventually becoming a journeyman carpenter. Now, as manager/estimator, he is able to incorporate his hands-on expertise with his skill in managing each client’s unique situation.
Born and raised in Hollister, Matt grew up developing a love of the outdoors that he now shares with his wife, Amanda, and two children. They like to take trips to the mountains as often as they can to enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Antonio Guido
Project Manager / Estimator
After serving in the US Navy and then working as a produce broker, Antonio started at SSB in 2017 and is now a project manager and estimator. Construction had always been a draw for Antonio, as he has a long family history of construction and millwork. His progress has been exceptional. With attention to detail and customer service paramount in his approach, he has truly enhanced the main ethos of SSB. Also, Antonio’s experience in the produce industry gives him excellent insight into SSB’s agricultural construction, from greenhouses to processing facilities.
Outside of work, you can catch Antonio with his family, outside playing sports, or on a hiking trail. Millwork is also a hobby he enjoys very much.

John Christian
Project Manager / Estimator
With over 40 years of experience in the construction industry, John brings extensive knowledge to his position. He started his own company in Salinas, Associated Rebar, where he worked for 13 years. His background includes estimating and managing various types of commercial and industrial construction projects, including high-rises.
One of John’s favorite hobbies is fly fishing. He and his wife have two grown children and try to enjoy every moment they can with their six grandchildren.

Mike Botehlo
Project Coordinator
Having grown up in San Juan Bautista as part of a family that has been involved in agriculture for generations, Mike did not stray far from his expected path. He spent 15 years working in operations management, where he learned how to manage the various construction projects and electrical and mechanical systems that came with the territory of running a large agricultural facility. Having previously been a longtime client of SSB, he now brings a unique perspective to estimating and project management—and a deep appreciation for what is required to take a project from conception to completion.
Mike often enjoys the outdoors with his family, whether they are riding dirt bikes, target shooting, or hiking. When Mike is home, he is almost always in the garage with a tool in his hand, trying to satisfy his endless curiosity.

Eddie Puga
Project Manager / Estimator
Eddie is a lifelong resident of the Salinas Valley. After receiving an AA in Construction Management from Heald College Salinas and spending several years in the industry, he joined SSB Construction in 2018.
