As one of the largest growers and shippers of fresh fruit and vegetables, D’Arrigo Brothers Company of California decided to consolidate their entire operations by developing 27 acres in Spreckels, CA. The first phase of this two year project included a 100,000 sq ft cooling facility with 28 loading docks, “shrink-wrap” area, pressure coolers, dispatch office, and a detached trucker lounge. The second phase featured 40,000 sq ft of corporate offices with a Spanish inspired design, including a large courtyard, arched colonnades, break-room/kitchen, and a fitness room with a sauna.
As the only original existing structure on the site, the mechanic shop was expanded to include more shop space, administrative offices and a break-room. The entire project proved extremely rewarding, as it consisted of the most talented group of designers, engineers, and consultants around.
SSB is currently in the process of constructing over 110,000 sq ft of additional facilities as D’Arrigo Bros. continues to diversify and expand their offerings. Their efforts towards increased sustainability continue with their upcoming construction of ground-mounted solar panels.
